Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

Contribution to Project
The images used here are mockups that give a similar look to the actual work I did. The airport pictured is Hiroshima Airport which I was responsible for mapping out during the early days of my employment on this project. I followed this process for hundreds of airports.
Job Overview
Using a proprietary tool, I mapped out AI navigation for hundreds of airports around the world. Each airport was sent to my supervisor who sent it to Asobo to implement into the game.
On a weekly basis, I would take part in a meeting where my supervisors would show myself and the other contractors on the project some feedback on our work from the team at Asobo. This role started in an office environment but became fully remote after two weeks due to Covid-19 restrictions.

AI Path Plotting
When starting an Airport, I plotted out the path and width for the Runway (yellow in the image below). I'd go on to plot out the paths for the Taxiway (green in the image below) for Planes and Fuel Vehicles to use and connect it to the Runway. I'd then plot out the parking spots (the pink dots in the image below). Once this was done, I would validate and iterate on the path that I created.

Environment Aprons
Firstly, I would create the apron for asphalt and concrete areas for the airport, connecting multiple shapes together as I went. I would then go on to make the painted lines, including hold shorts and the sides of the path. Lastly, I would add in finishing details such as polygons to determine where car parks would be placed in the game.

Takeaways from working on this project
➤ This was my first industry project after graduating from University
➤ Developed a rapid, quality driven workflow to allow for a high number of excellent quality work. During my time on this project, I very rarely needed to resolve quality-related issues due to high quality work.
➤ Using my own initiative when working remotely by keeping track of each airport I've completed and how long it took me to complete them using a spreadsheet, to compare with the records set out by the project supervisors to compare for accuracy reasons.
➤ Communicating with other team members using the dedicated Discord server if I had any questions or concerns regarding any airport I was working on.
